Sant Jeroni de la Murtra Monastery - Badalona
A historical gem where you can learn, enjoy the silence and be in nature
Surrounded by greenery, the monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Murtra is a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) and perhaps the most significant historical and cultural jewel of Badalona, which can be enjoyed with the whole family on a self-guided walk or a guided tour.
We highly recommend the guided tour of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to fully appreciate the monastery’s rich history dating back to the 15th century. This is after all where Christopher Columbus was received by the Catholic Monarchs upon his return from his first voyage to America!
Visiting with kids
While there are no guided tours specifically designed for children, a visit with kids is certainly possible!
For babies: Keep in mind that the monastery is not accessible via a paved road, and a stroller can be a challenge. A sling or hiking backpack is the best option.
For active toddlers and young children: You may need to chase them around a bit, but with patience and flexibility, it can still be done!
For older children: If they can walk comfortably and listen for a while, they'll likely enjoy the many facts and anecdotes shared during the guided tour.
Best time to go
On Sunday mornings, when two guided tours are available. Depending on your family's energy level, combine it with a shorter or longer walk through the surrounding woods.
The monastery sits at the crossroads of several scenic routes in the Vall de Sant Jeroni de la Murtra (also known as Vall de Poià and Vall de Betlem), within the Serralada de Marina natural park.
For a more personalized experience, you can also arrange a private visit by contacting the monastery directly.
