Textile Printing Museum - Premià de Mar
A unique museum where both kids and adults can try traditional printing techniques
The Museu de l'Estampació de Premià de Mar is the only museum of its kind in Spain, specializing in textile printing and its historical significance. It highlights the key role that Catalonia—especially the Barcelona area—has played in the textile industry since the 18th century.
Housed in a former gas factory, the museum blends industrial charm with history. It features both permanent and temporary exhibitions, exploring the evolution of textile production, patterns, printing techniques, equipment, and even finished garments. Additionally, the museum is home to the archaeology room of Premià de Mar’s Roman Museum.
Visiting with kids
The permanent exhibition is recommended for children aged 5 and up, with a visit typically lasting at least 30 minutes. Exhibits include multilingual text explanations in Catalan, Spanish, and English.
One of the highlights of the museum is its interactive family workshops, where visitors can experiment with traditional fabric printing techniques, such as block printing or screen printing. These hands-on sessions are held once a month at affordable prices (e.g., €2 or €4 per person).
Throughout the year, the museum also organizes thematic activities for children as young as three years old and up.
Outside the museum, you’ll find several playgrounds, the beach, and Parc de Palmar, a perfect spot for playtime and a picnic—all within walking distance.
Best time to go
For the best experience, plan your visit on a day when a family workshop is scheduled. Not only will you learn about textile printing, but you’ll also leave with your own handmade print as a unique souvenir.
